What does COLĒRE mean?
COLĒRE comes from the Latin colere, meaning to cultivate. It is the root of both culture and cultivate, and it carries our belief that beautiful things should be grown with care rather than extracted. We chose a name that is a philosophy: tend to the soil, the craft and the community, and everything worth keeping will grow.
Is COLĒRE Fairtrade certified?
Not yet, and we will not use the words until we have earned the mark. Every COLĒRE artisan is fairly paid, on fair terms, from craft through to packaging. Fair trade certification is part of our journey, and we would rather earn the language than borrow it.
Who makes COLĒRE products?
Skilled artisans in the small craft communities we work with directly and in harmony. We do not direct our makers; we create alongside them, and their hands are in every weave. We choose not to name individual communities publicly, because we protect the people behind our pieces as carefully as the pieces themselves.
Are COLĒRE pieces really handmade?
Yes, entirely. Every piece is made by hand in small batches, and no two are exactly alike. Gentle variations in weave and tone are not flaws but signatures, the visible record of a human hand at work.
What is abaca?
Abaca is a natural plant fibre and one of the most renewable and biodegradable materials in the world. It is lightweight, remarkably strong and naturally beautiful, with warm tones entirely as nature intended. We use it with no synthetic dyes and no chemical treatments.
How do I care for my COLĒRE piece?
Gently wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth, keep it away from prolonged moisture and direct sunlight, and store it somewhere that breathes rather than in plastic. Every piece carries a tag with a QR code leading to its own story and care ritual. Over time the texture and tone will soften; this is the patina of authenticity, and it is meant to happen.
Is there a care card in the box?
No, and that is deliberate. Instead of printing cards, every product tag carries a QR code that links to the piece's story and care instructions online. Less paper, more story.
Is there a care card in the box? Do COLĒRE products come gift-wrapped?
Yes, every piece arrives gift-wrapped in sustainable packaging handmade by our partner craft communities. The wrapping is part of the work, made by the same hands.
Can my COLĒRE piece be repaired?
Yes. We offer tailored support to all our clients and a range of options for preserving the life of every piece, from subtle minor repairs to a new lease of life entirely. Write to us and we will look after you personally.
Does COLĒRE offer discounts or sales?
No, never. Pricing our artisans' work honestly means not discounting it. We reward our community with access and belonging instead: early access, first looks and gatherings through the Club of COLĒRE.
What is the Club of COLĒRE?
The Club of COLĒRE is our community: the people who share our values and want to live them out together. Members are first to hear of new collections and brand updates, and first through the garden gate. Joining the Ground Floor is free; simply share your email with us.
What is the COLĒRE Fund?
The COLĒRE Fund is how our work gives back. It supports the craft communities behind our pieces with education, resources and empowerment, helping livelihoods stand strong on their own. We will share its story as it grows.
Where does COLĒRE deliver?
We ship the Founding Collection across the United Kingdom. UK standard delivery is via Royal Mail, typically 3 to 4 working days. A premium express service is available at checkout for those who would like their order sooner.
Colere always carries any import duties or import fees on materials brought in for the makers and the work, so our makers and our customers do not.
Made-to-order pieces are crafted by hand for you, with timings shared at the point of order.
How do I get in touch?
We'd love to hear from you; use the form in The Garden.
Ordering & Made to Order
Are your pieces made to order?
Many of our pieces are lovingly made to order by hand, which means nothing is produced until it is wanted — reducing waste and honouring the maker's craft.
How long until my order is dispatched?
Ready pieces are dispatched within 1–2 working days.
Made-to-order pieces are crafted by hand especially for you, so the timing depends on your design, your chosen materials, and the artisan creating your piece — all agreed with you in your design consultation and confirmed in writing on your order.
As a general guide, please allow around 4–8 weeks for handmade pieces. Where a piece is made by our overseas artisan partners, we ship by tracked express courier, and international conditions can occasionally add a little time — if so, we'll keep you personally updated at every step. We would always rather be honest about timing than rush the craft; beautiful things are worth the wait.
When will I get my order?
We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.
Will I be updated on my order?
Yes — you'll receive email updates when your order is confirmed and again when it is dispatched with tracking.
