The Story of COLĒRE
Every house has a beginning. Ours began quietly, in a sitting room in the English countryside, with a mother of four deep in contemplation and prayer. Comfortable, yet unable to stay comfortable.
Grateful, yet certain that appreciation alone was not enough. Around her, a life of spinning plates. Outside her walls, a world of deep need. And rising in her, a question that would not leave: how do you cultivate care? In yourself, in a family, in a culture, in a world?
From Colère to COLĒRE
Look honestly at the world and you may feel what our founder felt: anger and apathy, selfishness and confusion, all at once. The French have a word for that anger: colère. We believe anger is not the enemy. Left alone, it hardens. Tended, it becomes fuel. So we take your colère and COLĒRE it into something beautiful. Cultivated, anger becomes conviction; conviction becomes craft; craft becomes change you can hold in your hands.
With today’s constraints on us all, across all cultures, we believe two things are urgent: clarify your intentions, then walk in integrity towards them. This house is what happened when one woman did exactly that.
Three Words, One Root
Our founder loves etymology, the habit of journeying into history to learn lessons for today. Searching for a name, she discovered that culture, cultivate, and worship all derive from the same Latin root, colere. The name chose itself.
At COLĒRE, the three words keep their oldest meanings. To worship is to acknowledge the Divine, to respect creation, and to honour the creator with your life. To cultivate is to nurture the land of your soul and the land of your world, to be prepared and to prepare others. And culture is the manifestation of the collective: ideas shaped, customs formed, the future influenced. We exist to cultivate care within culture. Mother Earth is tended best by those who also honour the father of all.

Beyond Circular
In recent years, many brands have learned to say sustainable, and lately, circular. Ask those on the front lines of research, as our founder did, and you will hear a harder truth: circular does not cut it. We have to go beyond circular. The heart of our brand is a circle that grows like a tree, ring upon ring, serving the world as it widens. Many brands are square pegs pressed against this round hole, and that is why, regretfully, so many are shamed for greenwashing. We would rather grow slowly in the right shape than quickly in the wrong one.
It is why we work with regenerative and recycled materials, steer away from plastic, and hold fast to heritage skills and community-sustaining work. And it is why we never speak of charity when we speak of our artisans. You do not give charity to your own children. You build them an inheritance.
The Founder
COLĒRE was founded by Maddison May Kapetanov: model, mother of four, and advocate for wellbeing and sustainable fashion, raised in the English countryside amongst a heritage that taught her both the weight and the duty of legacy. COLĒRE is her offering: a better system. She would rather the work speak first. The rest of her story is told in its own time, and in its own place.

A Label of Love
COLĒRE was born of a labour of love, and now our label serves as an offer to take part: in craft that dignifies its maker, in materials the earth can give gladly, in a culture of care. The collection is made. The garden gate is open. The rest, we grow together.
